Kim has been a Daughterly Care Caregiver for 8 years

Kim is especially gifted with music. Watch the video of Kim talking about how she uses music with clients. Also on that page read how she used Jack’s love of Jazz music to strengthen his legs.

What our client’s say about Kim

From Mr and Mrs Brown: Kim is a delight, she gave much needed pampering and made me feel like a million dollars.

22 January 2014 – Appreciative email from a blind Mosman client’s Enduring Guardian

I came back from visiting Bob yesterday and thought about the messages I read in the Daughterly Care Communication Book. Is there some way Bob and I can acknowledge the positive contribution Kim makes to Bob’s life and to other carers’ work especially Denise’s? Kim is a real team player in the right sense of the word. In the 2 hours Kim is with Bob she manages to cook him a delicious meal (must be delicious cos he eats it all!), makes enough food to freeze some for others to use (especially helpful for Denise on Sunday nights) and asks for input for food suggestions as well as including more “exotic” ingredients (for Bob) on the shopping list. As well she improves his quality of life. She had him help her cook ANZAC biscuits last Monday – great tactile exercise for blind Bob and was the first to dance with him (now all carers dance!) she has given him the wooden spoons to tap out rhythms on the table and has brought other music for him to listen to. I would like to acknowledge what she does for Bob without making others feel left out (they all have their own strengths). What can you think of?

7 August 2015 Email from daughter of client, who lives in Hunters Hill, on Sydney’s Lower North Shore

A very special thank you to Kim. Not only has Kim provided the highest quality of care for Nancy in the last few years, but she has also made sure that our lives have run as smooth as possible and has continually made us all laugh with her quirky sense of humour. She has been an enormous source of comfort to Nancy and the entire family that words cannot convey the extent of our gratitude to Kim. Thank you Kim.

Regards,

Mira

3 November 2016 – Thank You to Kim from Mrs V, who lives in Neutral Bay on Sydney’s Lower North Shore

Kim’s kindness, patience and care are wonderful and much appreciated.

Kim’s comments

I enjoy working for Daughterly Care because I feel supported and recognised for who I am and encouraged to use my life skills with clients to make their service more interesting and of a high standard. Management encouraged training which broadened my understanding of Holistic Care for the Aged, also showing me the importance of understanding the Aged Care policies, to assist elderly clients should they require additional support.

I love working for Daughterly Care as they have given me the opportunity to work with the Elders of our community, filling the gaps in their lives.  I have found that I can draw from their past and bring back skills that they/and their family had thought were gone forever, to see the joy return to clients is priceless.

Since working for Daughterly Care I have had the opportunity to really develop as a carer – I have been encouraged to use my love of music, singing, playing instruments and love for all styles of dance and exercise to share with clients. More importantly, the clients have someone to share their passions with.

Many of my clients are unable to communicate or have forgotten how they used to do things and I have been able to help them re-learn/ express themselves with art, craft, writing their thought and writing letters to their family members, even cooking, develop the confidence to walk and gain good balance and to socialise. I never stop trying to see what an elder can do.

Thank you Daughterly Care for being supportive to your clients and to your staff, we are a good team.
